Controller

Homegrown Cannabis Company (www.shophomegrown.com), a sophisticated cultivation, processing, and provisioning center in Lansing, MI is seeking a Controller to lead the internal accounting and finance functions for their growing company.  Homegrown Cannabis Company joined the highly regulated medical cannabis community in 2018 and became the area’s first licensed recreational provisioning center in 2020.  Since that time, the business has more grown to more than $16M in revenue, necessitating the addition of a high-level accounting professional to provide technical and operational leadership on all financial and fiscal management issues for the company.  This position will work closely with company leadership and financial/tax vendors to ensure strong fiscal health and a strong system of internal controls for the company, including financial projections, budgeting, analyzing finance data and systems management.

Main responsibilities include:

1. Accounting
   1. As the main accountant, the Controller is responsible for overseeing and sometimes handling all regular accounting activity including accounts payable and receivable, and payroll.
   2. Internal and external management reporting, including cash flow forecasting, budgeting and financial analyses.  Monthly presentation of financial statements including presenting to company leadership.
   3. Annual preparation of the operation budget and monthly reporting.
   4. Year-end audit and reporting, including tax and legal.
2. The Controller is the main Human Resources Administrator and is responsible for handling internal personnel records, managing the company’s benefit plans, and managing internal HR systems. 

Candidates must be detail-oriented and extremely organized.  Outstanding verbal and written communication skills are a must, as well as the ability to manage constantly changing requirements and priorities.  Excellent reconciliation skills are required.

A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or finance is required, along with 5-7 years of Controller and management experience (preferably in a highly regulated environment).   A formal accounting designation is not required.
